Don’t Give Up
From my experience, the process of making art takes time, unimaginable work and effort and commitment. It requires that you fail again and again until you are so frustrated that you just want to give up on being an artist! But every once in a while you manage to create something awesome, in my case an outstanding picture which makes all the failed attempts worthwhile. I remember there was a time I used to go to the beach several days a week searching for my next ‘photographic gem’. At first all I managed to find were sea shells and some dead fish, and I got tired of those pretty quickly. Surprising even myself, I did not put down my camera in defeat. Finally one day I spotted a white bird that resembled a stork which was doing its morning fishing. It aimed its beak towards the surface of the water and speared through it to catch fish. I saw that it wasn’t bothered by my presence and I was able to come closer without disturbing it. It was a unique experience for me since I grew up and lived my whole life in the city and was not accustomed to having a close connection with Mother Nature. I started to photograph it while slowly coming closer to the bird, one shot after another. Eventually I managed to get a good shot of it exactly as it was piercing the water. I was so excited after taking that shot and so thankful to that bird for letting me into its life if only for a few moments.
